The “top-of the range” accommodation is provided in spacious 6.5 x 4.5 metre canvas safari tents located on an island in the Bua River. Elephants, bushbuck and waterbuck sometimes visit the island and the pools to the front of the tents are home to some rather large crocodiles (don't worry - they stay in the river!). Civets, genets, porcupines and mongooses walk the pathway along the island and the riverside in the evening and early morning.
Accessed across a wooden bridge and a brief walk through the bush, these two luxury units provide a unique wilderness experience, without sacrificing comfort. The double has a queen size bed with high density mattress and down pillows while the twin has two three-quarter beds, all with walk-in mosquito nets. Extra single beds can be provided on request. Other furniture comprises a dressing table, bag rack and shelves, two cane armchairs, lockable hardwood chest and coffee table inside and a further two chairs and table on the deck. Lighting is a combination of solar and paraffin lamps, with candles also provided.
Extensive decks at the front of the tents, shaded by forest trees, provide unrivalled views of the Bua River, with crocodiles basking on the rocks and sandbanks and bushbuck and sometimes elephant enjoying the lush grass of the river bank. Civets and mongoose patrol the paths at night.
Island B enjoys a magical breakfast deck perched on the top of a rock in the river, and reached by a wooden bridge, giving spectacular views up- and downstream. Your early-morning coffee and breakfast is brought to you at a time of your choosing.
Picture yourself watching the sun rise over the river as you drink coffee on a cool winter’s morning, or sipping a cool drink as you watch the river reflect the changing colours of the sunset.
The Island accommodation is ideal for families with children or couples looking for a romantic getaway.
